NCCF Announces Nathan George Memorial Scholarship Awards

The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF) is pleased to announce the Nathan George Memorial Scholarship awards for 2017. Sierra Delcamp from Dunkirk High School, Hannah Cybart and Jacob Tarnowski both from Fredonia High School each received a $500 scholarship.

As a member of Dunkirk High School’s Class of 2017, Sierra Delcamp participated in softball, tennis, soccer, and indoor track as well as numerous extra-curricular activities and clubs. She also volunteered at several local nonprofit organizations while holding down a part-time job. She now attends SUNY Fredonia majoring in Biology.

Jacob Tarnowski was a member of Fredonia High School’s Varsity Baseball and Cross Country teams. He spent four years volunteering at the Lakeshore Humane Society as well as several other community events. Jacob is currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics at St. John Fisher College.

Volleyball, basketball, and softball kept Hannah Cybart busy during her four years at Fredonia High School. Besides sports, she was active in numerous extracurricular activities. Outside of school, Hannah is an active member of her church. She sees herself in 10 years as an environmental lawyer beginning with pre-law studies at Houghton College.

Nathan George was a remarkable young man, known for his passion for life and love of sports.   A 2000 graduate of Fredonia High School, Nathan was lost in a car accident at age 27. His family and friends raised funds through softball tournaments and established this scholarship fund in his memory and honor. First awarded in 2010, the Nathan George Memorial Scholarship is a reflection of Nate’s love for sports. Applicants are selected based on sports participation, academic standing, and letters of recommendation. Fredonia and Dunkirk High School student-athletes are eligible to apply.
