John J. Maxwell Memorial Scholarship for Science

 This award is presented annually to a well-rounded graduate of Chautauqua Lake Central School who best demonstrates original thinking and a strong love for the study of science.

Background:

John Maxwell was a high school teacher of science at the former Chautauqua Central School from 1958-1984. CCS was one of the two area high schools that make up today's CLCS . The annual award was established in 2003 by his family & friends to honor Mr. Maxwell’s many years of dedication to his students and love for the field of science. Over the years he was a most memorable teacher and strong positive inspiration to a very many students.

Criteria:

The award is presented to an individual student who demonstrates original thinking and a strong love for the study of science. Additional factors should be taken into consideration. The recipient should have character which demonstrates a well rounded individual. Musical or other artistic talent, participation in human or community services, sound athletic ability, or strong scholastic showing in another area(s) of study will improve an applicant's chances of receiving the award. In general the award is not presented solely on the highest science marks.
