Alumni - William Taft

Awarded by the Dunkirk High School Faculty to the most deserving member of the graduating class, who has been a student for at least three years, and who is entering college within one year of graduation.

Florence Andrews Latin Prize

This award was established by Florence Andrews to benefit t a senior of Dunkirk High School who has completed and excelled in Latin.

Fred A. Arcoraci Business Scholarship

The Fred A. Arcoraci Business Scholarship Fund was created to benefit Dunkirk students committed to pursuing a career in business.

Marguerite Belden

This award was established by Marguerite Belden. This is intended to award a Dunkirk High School senior who is attending an institution of higher learning for teacher preparation.

Teresa Clarke

This award is presented in honor of Teresa J. Clarke. Awards are given annually to two graduating seniors, one of each gender, who have attended School 5 of Dunkirk.

Thomas J. Clarke

This award is given in honor of Thomas J. Clarke, a life-long resident of Dunkirk who encouraged and supported young people in their pursuit of sports and who held a great belief in the value of higher education. The recipient will be a graduating senior of Dunkirk High School who has been active on the Dunkirk High Bowling or Golf Teams and who has been accepted at an institution of higher learning.

Class of 1949

This fund was established by the Dunkirk High School Class of 1949 to provide scholarships for graduating students of Dunkirk High School.

Dunkirk Class of 1952 Field Trip Fund

Class of 1960

This fund was established by the Dunkirk High School Class of 1960 to provide scholarships for graduating students of Dunkirk High School.

Class of 1968

This award is presented to two seniors of Dunkirk High School who have an overall financial need and who are involved in extra-curricular activities, sports and/or work involvement.

Class of 1989

This scholarship was established in memory of deceased classmates and is awarded to one senior of Dunkirk High School who intends to attend college or a technical school as a full-time student. Selection is based on the following criteria: School involvement and service, community involvement and service, leadership skills and academic promise. Priority will be given to children and other close relatives of DHS Class of 1989 graduates.

Dolores Clifford

This scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior from Dunkirk High School. The recipient will be a student who has shown academic growth and improvement throughout his/her high school career.

Donald R. Coleman

This award was established in memory of Donald R. Coleman, a graduate of Dunkirk High School who served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. The award is presented to two graduating seniors of Dunkirk High School, one of each gender, whose academic record is in the middle of the class.

Allen Cole Memorial

This award was established in memory of Allen Cole. It is presented to students of the Dunkirk City School District and the Fredonia Central School District who are planning on continuing their education in the area of nursing.

William T. Colman Recipients

This fund was established in 1973 through the estate of William T. Colman, who graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1922. This award will provide an annual monetary award to a retired school teacher who has taught in the Dunkirk School System on a continuous basis for at least ten years.

Dr. Robert L. Cooley

This award is presented to a graduating senior from Dunkirk High School who is attending an institution of higher learning. Preference will be given to a student going into the field of education.

Francella Corsi Memorial

This award, in memory of Francella Corsi, is offered to a graduate of Dunkirk High School who is attending Fredonia State University of New York to pursue a degree in education.

Santa A. B. DiPasquale Memorial

This endowed scholarship fund awards a graduating Dunkirk High School senior with plans to pursue an advanced degree in mathematics or mathematics education.

Jeremy Dolce Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Jeremy Dolce Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to remember the Dunkirk High School class of 2002 graduate, for his genuine, honest, and humorous personality and his passion for his trades and skill.

Anthony G. Duino

This award has been established to provide scholarships for Dunkirk High School students planning on continuing their education in the area of Art and/or Music.

Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund

The Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund was established in 2022 with proceeds from the sale of the Chamber’s former office building. The scholarship benefits students in the Dunkirk City School District that are pursuing a business degree or attending a trade school.

Dunkirk High School Scholarship

Dunkirk High School Student Memorial

This award was established in memory of the six students of Dunkirk High School who tragically passed away in the Dunkirk train wreck of 1986. The award is presented to students of Dunkirk High School with financial need who were good friends and citizens. Special consideration is given to students with relation to the bereaved families.

This award is presented to the Dunkirk High School student who plans to be an English major in college who shows interest and potential.

Margaret Sysol Griffin Memorial Scholarship

This award is presented to Dunkirk High School students pursuing a career in medicine or medical research.

Gross Prize Speaking Contest

This award is presented to students of Dunkirk High School who have been successful contestants of the "Gross Prize Speaking Contest".

Andrew J. Hawke Memorial

This award is presented to a handicapped student of Dunkirk Public Schools who wishes to further his/her education.

David Haynes Memorial

This scholarship was created in memory of the late David Haynes. The recipient of this award is a deserving Dunkirk High School senior needing financial assitance in order to continue his/her education.

Agnes M. Higgins

This award was established in memory of Agnes M. Higgins, who taught mathematics at Dunkirk High School from 1933-1956. The award is given annually to two graduating seniors of Dunkirk High School who have attained the highest four year average in mathematics and completed four years of mathematics.

JFK Class of 1963

This award is presented by the Dunkirk High School Student Council. Scholarships will be given to graduating seniors continuing their education at an institution of higher learning.

Frank “Berry” & Margie Jagoda

This award is presented to a Dunkirk High School senior who has participated in sports and has been accepted to an institution of higher learning.

Kaufman Family

This award will be presented to a graduating Dunkirk High School senior with a positive and appreciative attitude. This student must be attending an institution of higher learning and must be a first generation college student. The renewable scholarship is to be used to cover books and supplies (and studio/lab fees) during college.

This award is presented in honor of Joseph Kawski. Recipients will be Dunkirk High School seniors who have excelled in Social Studies and have an economic need to pursue a higher form of education.

Carol A. Kozlowski Nursing

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Dunkirk High School senior who will be pursuing a Registered Nursing degree. Preference is given to students from Northern Chautauqua County enrolled in Jamestown Community College's RN Program.

This award is presented to a Dunkirk High School student who has excelled in Biology and has been accepted into college.

Mackowiak Elementary Education Scholarship

This scholarship benefits students from Dunkirk High School pursuing a career in elementary education.

John & Helen Mancuso

This scholarship is awarded to two Dunkirk High School graduating seniors who intend to major in education with certification in Social Studies. Preference is given to students who have been accepted for admission to Fredonia State University College.

Catherine Morrissey Memorial

This award was established in memory of Catherine Morrissey. The recipient must be a Dunkirk High School graduating senior who has excelled in English and who has been accepted as an English major in the subject area of humanities, communications or art at an institution of higher learning.

Van Miller Hometown Hero

This scholarship is presented to graduating seniors of the Dunkirk City School District who have been accepted into a college or university. Applicants are asked to submit a written essay about his/her personal hero followed by a presentation to the committee.

Beatrice & Owen B. Mulholland

This award is given to one needy and worthy child to stay in Dunkirk High School and to one student who has the highest average mark in Mathematics.

NRG Dunkirk Power

This scholarship is awarded to two Dunkirk High School students who best demonstrate good citizenship, friendliness, and a sincere desire for achieving a higher education.

IOOF Olympia Lodge #602

This scholarship is awarded as an extension of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Trust Fund. The award is given to one male and one female graduating senior from Dunkirk High School who display the Odd Fellows Principle of Friendship, Love and Truth and have a scholastic average between 75 and 85.

Kathryn Reber Award for Music

This award is given to a Dunkirk High School student with preference given to a student of piano.

Pearl A. Reed

This award is presented to a Dunkirk High School graduating senior who is attending an institution of higher learning and has also shown promise in scholastic ability, group leadership, personality development, and/or has made acceptable achievement under adverse conditions.

Honorable Joseph Ricotta

This award is presented to a graduating senior of Dunkirk High School who is attending an institution of higher learning. Preference is given to students with plans to go on into the field of law.

Glorimar Rivera

The classmates of Gloria Rivera, a 2001 Dunkirk High School graduate, established this fund to honor Gloria after she was killed while serving in the military. The recipient of the award must be of JROTC Cadet or second language sequence, and a community-minded student.

Jim Schilling Basketball

This award will be made available annually to a Dunkirk High School graduate who is an outstanding male athlete and is enrolled in an institution of higher learning.

Theresa Schober Award for Art

This award is given in honor of retired Dunkirk High School art teacher Theresa Schober by her former students. The recipient must be a Dunkirk High School graduating senior with plans to further his/her education in art.

William J. Schober

This award is given to an outstanding Dunkirk High School student who has completed three years or more of mathematics , who has given service to the student body, and who has plans to attend an institution of higher learning.

Casimir and Caroline Skrzyniarz Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is officially called the Polish American Scholarship in memory of Caroline and Casimir Skrzyniarz by Emily and Robert Skrzyniarz.

Welka Family

This award is given annually to a senior graduating from the City of Dunkirk Public School District. The recipient should have a minimum B average, but not rank at the top of his/her class. The recipient should also be active in church, synagogue or mosque, and community, and be attending a technical school or college. Preference is given to students who wish to pursue a career in the area of animal welfare.

Wheeler Family Memorial

This award is presented to a Dunkirk High School senior who has excelled in any two of the following three sports: track, football, and basketball and by virtue of his/her unselfish efforts has inspired others to acheive.

Arthur H. Woelfle

This award is presented to a graduating Dunkirk High School senior who has been accepted into a college or university, and is pursuing a career as a math or science teacher.

Wolfenden-Clifton Memorial

This award is presented annually to a graduating Dunkirk High School senior who has been accepted for enrollment at a college or school of their choice.

Michael Woloszyn Memorial

This award is made annually to benefit a graduating Dunkirk High School senior who has been involved in community service, has strong leadership qualities, and is of Polish descent. Preference is given to students pursuing careers in education or medicine.

Women’s Education & Industrial Union

This fund was established by the Women's Educational & Industrial Union, a philanthropic and benevolent organization which was maintained for many years by a devoted membership of women in the city of Dunkirk, NY. Scholarships are awarded to graduating Dunkirk High School students.
